PVCC Klezmer Ensemble-min

Paradise Valley Community College presents the inaugural concert of Arizona’s first collegiate klezmer ensemble. This groundbreaking performance features nine professional-level musicians, including members of Phoenix’s acclaimed Little Chef Klezmer Band and JFunk, performing traditional klezmer pieces and Yiddish songs.

The ensemble uniquely blends experienced klezmer performers with accomplished musicians new to the genre, creating fresh interpretations of traditional music. A highlight includes the premiere of an original Hanukkah composition by PVCC student Mishy Katz.

Under the direction of Max Schwimmer, whose initiatives in bringing klezmer music to Phoenix have received support from the Center for Jewish Philanthropy of Greater Phoenix, ASU Jewish Studies, the City of Phoenix Office of Arts and Culture, and the Arizona Commission on the Arts.
