This year’s Jewish Community Day at the Arizona Diamondbacks was nothing short of a grand slam! The excitement was palpable as families, friends, and community members gathered at Chase Field to cheer on the D-backs as they faced off against the Phillies on Sunday, August 11, 2024. With the Diamondbacks securing a decisive 12-5 victory, the day was filled with not just baseball, but also a rich tapestry of community engagement and celebration.

A Day of Highlights

One of the most memorable moments of the day was when Holocaust survivor Herbert Marx had the honor of throwing out the first pitch. His graceful pitch set the tone for the day, followed by a heartwarming performance by our talented youth choir led by Cantor Ross Wollman, who captivated the audience with their rendition of the national anthem. The pride in their voices echoed throughout the stadium, creating a truly special atmosphere.

Community in Action

The Jewish community area was abuzz with activity, offering something for everyone. Attendees spun the wheel for prizes, entered raffles, and got a early-bird discount code for the upcoming Jewish Community Night at ZooLights (Dbacks24). Creative spirits flourished as families made signs to root on the teams, put on temporary tattoos, and crafted slap bracelets with PJ Library. A photo backdrop provided the perfect spot for capturing memories, while the community quilt project allowed participants to contribute to a meaningful and lasting piece of art.

Three lucky kids from the community had the chance to participate in the fan-favorite hot dog derby, racing on the field in condiment costumes to the delight of the crowd. We’re already planning for next year’s event, which will include a contest to determine who will get to take part in this exciting race!

Looking Ahead

As we reflect on the day, it’s clear that Jewish Community Day at the Arizona Diamondbacks has become a cherished tradition, bringing together new and old friends in a vibrant celebration of Jewish life. We’re already looking forward to next year’s event, set for August 2025, with the official date to be announced later this year.

Thank you to everyone who came out to support the Diamondbacks and celebrate our incredible community. We can’t wait to see you next year for another day of fun, connection, and, of course, baseball!
