The Jewish Community Relations Council of Greater Phoenix (JCRC) has been on the front lines fighting antisemitism, and extremism against all of Arizona’s vulnerable communities. This has included the continued work around the historic Arizona State Nonprofit Security grant program that continues to deliver millions in security funding to vulnerable houses of worship.
Here are some more examples of our successful work over the last year:
• Gathered actionable real-time threat intelligence across Arizona, which is then shared with law enforcement, synagogues, and other local agencies, as well as vulnerable communities targeted.
• Engaged in crisis management work post-October 7 to reduce tensions and deal with threats to the Jewish community around the Valley and state, and on campus in partnership with ASU Hillel to deal with issues affecting Jewish student life.
• Served as a press office for the Jewish community to work with local media to elevate and amplify the best voices to speak out on issues that affect our community, and gain corrections to misleading or unbalanced stories in the press.
• Revived the popular Latino-Jewish Seder to build bridges between community leadership through the celebration of the Passover holiday. Approximately 80 people attended this year’s Seder.
• Helped pass SB1432, legislation allowing homeowners to remove racist language in housing covenants that discriminate against Black, Latino, Asian, Jewish Arizonans, and other minority groups.
For this, and so much more, JCRC Executive Director Paul Rockower was awarded the prestigious FBI Director’s Community Leadership Award for work to protect the Jewish community and other vulnerable communities.
