In our capacity as a community service, and as part of our added value to the Jewish community of Greater Phoenix, the JCRC serves as a press office for the local Jewish community.

In this unique role, we help amplify the Jewish community’s voices in the press, and we work to share the Jewish community’s stories and perspectives in the local and national press.

Sometimes this falls on the JCRC to represent our community in the media; other times, we help connect and amplify our colleagues like ADL Desert Region or the Phoenix Holocaust Association to speak on the issues that affect our community.

This press work can focus on amplifying community stories, rabbinic voices, synagogue perspectives, and the Board of Rabbis. We help the local media report on our Jewish community’s institutions, heritage and holidays.

On issues related to campus concerns, we strengthen the voice of ASU Hillel and other campus partners, or that of ASU students.

On issues related to Israel that affect the Jewish community locally, we work to raise up the Israeli Consulate, and local Israeli-American voices, or those within the local Jewish community with the deepest connection to the story.

We also work to correct stories that are misleading or factually incorrect, and have ensured corrections in multiple stories the Arizona press that were lacking context, incorrect or missing the local Jewish or Israeli-American community’s perspectives on issues that affect us.

This press work can also entail strategic communications, as we help our partners in law enforcement communicate directly with the Jewish community.

As part of the JCRC’s strategic mission, we are conducting a new project to proactively meet and educate with local media’s news desks and assignment editors to help better understand on how to cover issues of antisemitism and anti-Israel bias.
