On Wednesday, November 16, Women IN Philanthropy hosted a packing party for Dignity Grows, a program that mobilizes volunteers to organize, assemble and distribute free, reusable zipper-top totes filled with a month’s supply of hygiene products to those that cannot afford them.
The group of 15 women joined for a fun evening where they learned from community member, Lori Berman, about the impact the bags have had for local teens, and then they helped assemble 227 bags. The bags that were packed that evening were donated to the PV School District Parent Group which works with social workers at various schools to give the bags to students from low-income families.
The packing party kicked off with some light refreshments and schmoozing before hearing the touching stories from Lori about how grateful the students in the PV District are for not only the products inside the bags but also the dignity in receiving a discrete bag to carry these essentials in.
Next, our local Dignity Grows co-chairs Shari Charous and Natalie Stern spoke about why they got involved with the program as an easy but meaningful way to give back to the community. They shared that for just $10 per bag, the Dignity Grows program provides these bags full of a month’s worth of hygiene supplies for women, girls and individuals who mensurate in need so that they can attend school and work and participate in community life without interruption.
