Beth Ami Temple will present “An Afternoon with Lan and Joy”. The public is invited to attend this special performance.

Lan Qiu has been playing in the first violin section of the Phoenix Symphony since 2003. He graduated from the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing in 1989 and joined the first violin section of the China Central Philharmonic Orchestra and served as acting Concertmaster until 1996. Besides winning many prizes, he was elected as the “Outstanding Young Artist of China” in 1996. He has performed in many countries in Europe, Asia and North America. Lan came to the United States in 2000, proudly becoming a citizen in 2009. The following year, he played the National Anthem for the Arizona Diamondbacks game at Chase Field. Together with his wife, violinist Joy Pan, they are always ready to enthusiastically share their music with the community.

Joy Pan is accomplished in her own right. She attended Shanghai Conservatory and came to the States in 1992 for her Bachelor and Master of Music Performance degrees. From 2005 to 2010, she served the concertmaster for Chandler Symphony Orchestra, and was selected as “Musician of the Year” in 2009. She was the first prize winner of Young Artist Competition in Michigan. She has often appeared as a concert soloist with orchestras in Arizona and Michigan. She was an Adjunct Faculty and Resident Quartet member at Mesa Community College from 2000-2004. Currently Ms. Pan teaches at International Baptist College and Seminary. Both Lan and Joy teach classical violin at their private studios in Ahwatukee.

From British romantic composer Edward Elgar to Argentine nuevo tango composer Astor Piazzolla; from Jewish classics to compositions by poly-stylist Shostakovich, Lan and Joy have designed a unique program for this concert, hoping to bring an enjoyable musical experience to the audience. Dr. Hongzuo Guo, will accompany them.
