JapaneseFlower

This is an introductory course in Ikebana which teaches how to arrange floral materials with an Asian flair.  Ikebana is more than putting flowers in a vase. It is a moving meditation and a minimalistic art form that respects empty spaces and does not try to fill every space of the container with flowers.  You will learn about the differences between Ikebana and western style arrangements, how to select containers, vases, and floral materials, how to use a pin holder (kenzan) to hold the floral materials in place, tips to design in low flat containers and tall vases, create a centerpiece, and learn how to incorporate fruit, vegetable into your arrangements.  Amy Khedouri taught Ikebana at both Paradise Valley Community College and Scottsdale Community College as well as Encore University. She has studied and taught both classical and modern Ikebana for over 40 years. Cost will be $140 for the 5 weeks and will include the fresh flowers each week.  Participants will need to bring their own scissors, vase and pin holder to the class.

Classes will be held:April 3, 10, 17, 24.  May 1
