“Shared Legacies” screened at Temple Solel

Just in time for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day, we invite you to join us at Temple Solel for a special one-time screening of Shared Legacies.  At a time when antisemitism and division are unfortunately on the rise in the U.S., this empowering film will remind you that the Black communities and Jewish communities of America once shared the same neighborhoods, persecution, and ultimately, the same fight for freedom.

Common cause was found in the turbulent ‘60s Civil Rights era, as Jewish leaders backed Dr. King’s efforts at racial equality and harmony. Yet, the relationship has frayed in recent years, as a once mighty bond of support and respect has seemingly faded, been forgotten or ignored.

Join us to watch the documentary film “Shared Legacies,” where pivotal events come alive through a treasure trove of archival materials, narrated by eyewitnesses, activists, Holocaust survivors, and leaders of the movement, including prominent Atlantans such as Congressman John Lewis, Amb. Andrew Young, Rabbi Alvin Sugarman, Rabbi Peter S. Berg, Oscar-winning actor Louis Gossett Jr., members of the King family, and many others.

Join us at 7PM on Saturday, January 14th, at Temple Solel for an opportunity to see this amazing documentary film, at a time when the subject has become increasingly relevant. As the documentary reflects a turbulent and occasionally violent time in our country’s history, some footage, pictures, and audio may be disturbing. This film is appropriate for anybody looking to deepen their knowledge of the crucial ties between the Jewish and Black communities of the United States of America.
