THE LONGEST JOURNEY: THE JEWS OF RHODES
The 2,000-year-old Jewish community of Rhodes was almost entirely decimated during the Holocaust. Italian neighbors watched as the Nazis deported its 1,800 Jewish residents to Auschwitz in July 1944, where few survived. Three of these survivors return to describe the life that once thrived there. After the war, few Italian Jews returned to Rhodes as it was now considered part of Greece. The film includes interviews with Stella Levi, the subject of the 2022 acclaimed book by Michael Frank Stella Levi and the Search for a Lost World, one of the Wall Street Journal’s Top 10 Books of the Year.
