The Center for Jewish Philanthropy of Greater Phoenix (CJP) in partnership with the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) and the Bureau of Jewish Education (BJE) is excited to host the upcoming conversation with internationally renowned Jewish author and educator, Ben M. Freeman on October 23, 2023, to discuss the importance of Jewish Pride as a way to counter Jew-hate faced by teens online and in the wider world.

Two concurrent events will be happening at the 6pm and 7pm hours. At 6pm, adults will gather for a moderated discussion geared towards parents of teens while teens will enjoy a pizza dinner and a casual interactive session led by Rabbi Aviva Funke of the BJE.

At 7pm, teens will gather for a moderated discussion with Ben while parents of teens are welcome to join ADL Arizona and Hillel at ASU for a valuable follow-up session where they will present and offer resources and Q&A with Arizona State University Hillel students and staff.

The goal of this follow-up session is to offer parents of teens insights, guidance, and tools to help steer their teens through these challenging times including:

1. Antisemitism in Schools and Campuses: ADL will shed light on the current state of antisemitism in educational institutions. They will provide valuable information on how to recognize and address antisemitism, ensuring your child’s educational journey remains inclusive and secure.

2. Tools to Combat Hate: In a world rife with hate and discrimination, it’s imperative that we equip ourselves and our children with the tools to combat these issues effectively. ADL will share practical strategies and resources that you can employ to promote tolerance, understanding, and unity in your family and community.

3. College Life: Unique Challenges and Jewish Pride: As your children embark on their college journeys, it’s natural to have concerns about how they will navigate unique challenges related to their identity. The Hillel staff and students from Arizona State University will be on hand to offer insights into the college experience and share how they address these issues. They will also discuss the creation of an environment where Jewish joy and pride can thrive, ensuring that your child feels supported and empowered during this critical phase of their life.

Those attending this follow-up session are encouraged to come prepared with their toughest questions. ADL and Hillel will be ready to share their support and expertise. This session is your opportunity to gain clarity, share your concerns, and leave with a stronger sense of confidence in guiding your teens through the challenges they may face.

Mark your calendars and join us for this enlightening and empowering evening. We look forward to seeing you there, ready to engage, learn, and strengthen our collective commitment to combat hate and foster a culture of acceptance and pride.
