David Uffens is a dedicated attorney based in Phoenix, Arizona, who has made significant contributions to both the legal field and the Jewish community. Born and raised in the Valley, David briefly left for his undergraduate studies at USC in Los Angeles before returning to attend law school and start a family in Arizona. He currently resides in the north Phoenix/Scottsdale area.

David’s connection to the Jewish community has been strong throughout his life. He actively participated in Jewish education, attending Sunday school and Hebrew High, and had his Bar Mitzvah at Temple Chai in Phoenix. He remained actively involved in Temple youth during high school, even serving as the president of TCTY during his senior year. His commitment to Jewish life continued into college, where he was part of a Jewish fraternity at USC and embarked on a Birthright trip to Israel.

“My closest group of friends growing up, many of whom I am still really close with and whom we share regular playdates with our kids, are all Jewish friends from Jewish preschool and youth group growing up,” shared David.

As parents, David and his wife, Erica, are passionate about instilling a love for Jewish life in their two daughters. Both girls were raised in a Jewish preschool in Scottsdale and regularly participate in Jewish summer camps and weekly rituals and traditions. Even as their oldest daughter starts public kindergarten, they plan to enroll her in Sunday school to continue fostering her connection to Jewish values and community.

When not working, David spends quality time with his family, exploring various activities in the Valley, including visits to the Phoenix Zoo and Children’s Museum. He has a keen interest in sports, both playing and watching, and is an avid fan of the Phoenix Suns and USC football.

Professionally, David is a licensed attorney at the esteemed law firm of Jaburg & Wilk in Phoenix. His focus lies in family law, particularly in high conflict custody and high asset divorces. He initially started his legal career in complex civil litigation with a focus on sports law, but his desire to make a positive impact on families and children led him to shift his practice to family law. David finds great fulfillment in advocating for his clients and guiding them through challenging legal matters. He also shares his expertise by teaching a Family Law course at ASU Law.

One of the most rewarding aspects of David’s job is helping clients achieve positive outcomes for their families, especially when it concerns the best interests of children. He volunteers as a Judge Pro Tempore for the Maricopa County Superior Court, acting as a mediator to assist parties in settling their litigation matters outside of court. This experience reinforces his commitment to fostering resolutions and preserving the emotional and financial well-being of his clients.

“There is little more rewarding than helping parties that are entrenched in a very difficult divorce or custody litigation settle without having to spend their children’s college funds to go to court,” explained David.

David is proud to be part of the Jaburg & Wilk law firm, which fosters a unique culture centered around principles called the “JW Way,” one of which is being a “mensch” and always taking the high road. This culture emphasizes valuing clients, team members, and giving back to the community through various charitable activities. His Jewish values align well with these principles, and he has enjoyed celebrating Jewish rituals and events with his colleagues, further strengthening the bond within the workplace.

As a family lawyer, David emphasizes the importance of mental health and self-care, not just for his clients but also for all parties involved in family court litigation. He understands the stress and uncertainty that clients face during these difficult times and believes in demonstrating empathy and patience while helping them navigate the legal process.

“As family lawyers, we understand the uncertainty most clients face in what is often the most stressful and perhaps the only time they will interact with the litigation process during their lives,” shared David. “Among the myriad of hats we wear, advocate and therapist are two of the most common. A good lawyer will demonstrate empathy and patience with clients when they struggle with the difficult emotions involved in family court litigation and take the time to help clients with a custom game plan to get them through the process.”
