I never met you Roey

So how can it be true?

That every day tears prick my eyes

All I think about is you

I never met you Roey

But I met your father’s mom

She’s so proud of who you were

And what you have become

How could you have done it?

Knowing what you’d lose?

In that instant, did you know

Prices come with what we choose?

You left us in a moment

One blink and you were gone

Battles, brothers we have lost

For the sake of what we will have won

All our hearts are bursting

You’ve touched more than just who’s close

I never even met you Roey

But I think I miss you most

I have a picture on my phone

An image of your face

I zoom in close into your eyes

I ponder dreams you would have chased

I catch a glimpse of who you were

I know the color of your hair

Your sister, see she’s my age

It’s more than I can bear

I look at you and wonder

Is it possible you knew?

That your days down here were winding down?

That there were things you’d have to do?

They write your name on rockets

They send you to the sky

You fought, you had a mission

“How you lived is how you died”

Every prayer I think to skip

Saying “It doesn’t really matter”

I think of what you’d give to say it

The heavens we shall shatter

What were the words you uttered?

As you stood there, tall and brave?

Was it a plea for a bit more time?

Was it your mother’s name?

Every night I sit in bed

And think of those we lose at war

The wins and losses of this fight

To get what we’re fighting for

I never met you Roey

But now you’re gone and it’s too late

But still our hearts remain connected

You saved our long awaited state

I didn’t need to meet you Roey

To know you at your core

Droplets roll down towards my heart

Which lies shattered on the floor
